The Northern Cardinal is fairly common at big canoe. They are a year round resident and breeder.  They are commonly seen at sun flower feeders.

The male is unmistakable with his brilliant red plumage, black mask, and red beak.

The female is a warm brown overall color and like the male has a black face and red beak.

Both males and females are very vocal.  Their song goes "Cheer reitt reitt..." or "Reitt cheer cheer ....

Their call is a somewhat metalic chip:

Habitat: Brushy woodland edges
